Transportation Committee

SILO facilitates a transportation committee that meets regularly. Its committee members range from county officials, social workers and our partners at other community agencies. It advocates for safety, accessibility and affordability. The committee works to educate the public and our consumers on the use of the transit system, which includes both Fixed-Route and Para Transit systems.

On Monday, March 16, 2015 the Suffolk County Public Works, Transportation & Energy Committee met in Hauppauge. The Committee arranged for two buses on display so they may have a better understanding of the differences to address constituents concerns.
Those in attendance SILO board Members, Executive Director Joseph M. Delgado, staff and consumers were given the opportunity to view and demonstrate safety issues of the recently purchased 1400 series Paratransit Vans. Some of the concerns addressed were:

Recent endeavors by the Transportation Committee:

  2. Wheelchair lift restraining belt does not reach around larger specialty wheelchairs and scooters

  4. Additional entrance grab rails requested for the right side entrance area
  5. Passengers would like additional seat securements
